AED rescuers and purchasers are protected by Good Samaritan laws in Florida despite the state’s limited CPR and AED training requirements.

Summary of Requirements
| Physician | No legislation is currently in place for Florida. |
| CPR/AED Training | Anyone that obtains an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is required to complete a course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, successfully complete basic first aid training, and demonstrate proficient use of an AED. |
| EMS Notification | It is encouraged that anyone who owns an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) should register with the local emergency medical services medical director in the community that the AED is located. |
| Maintenance Program | The owner of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) must properly maintain the unit and test it on a scheduled basis. |
| Notification of Use | Once an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is used, the user of the AED must alert the emergency medical services system as soon as possible. |

It is the intent of the Legislature that an AED may be used by any person for the purpose of saving the life of another person in cardiac arrest. In order to achieve that goal, the Legislature intends to encourage training in lifesaving first aid and set standards for and encourage the use of AEDs. |

As part of the minimum standard of care, every dental office location shall be required to have an AED by February 28, 2006. Any dentist practicing after February 28, 2006, without an AED on site shall be considered to be practicing below the minimum standard of care. |
