“Having an Avive Connect AED in all of our patrol vehicles has increased our odds at saving lives every day. Because our patrol vehicles are out 24/7 and there's an AED in every single marked patrol vehicle in our community. We know for a fact that if we have a person down with cardiac arrest, we have the possibility of getting there and saving that life and at least trying to get that heart back started before they get into the ambulance, and then they can continue care to the hospital.”

Frequently asked questions about law enforcement AEDs.

Unlike EMS and Fire crews who are dispatched from a centralized station, law enforcement is decentralized, which means police officers are dispersed throughout the community at all times. Because of this, police can often respond to priority calls more quickly than first responders and be the first on the scene, even for medical emergencies. Having AEDs in patrol vehicles empowers police officers to start resuscitation care before EMS and paramedics arrive, usually minutes later.

Police officers are at heightened risk for cardiac arrest and heart disease when compared to the general public they serve. A 2014 study by the Harvard School of Public Health found police officers in the United States had a 70x higher risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest due to the stressful nature of their work.

As well, multiple factors of law enforcement workplace culture including sleep deprivation, trauma, overactive dopamine systems, overuse of caffeine, diet, and physical training can also contribute to heightened levels of stress, both on and off the job. Therefore, AEDs are important for police officers to have on hand not only to protect the public, but to protect each other.

While all Avive Connect AEDs are equipped with cellular, Wi-Fi, and GPS technology, the location services can be toggled OFF on your devices at any given time if needed to comply with your department’s security requirements. Avive’s REALConnect™ also gives agencies the ability to set a PIN Code across all devices to ensure that device privacy settings are not changed without authorization.

Yes, the Avive Connect AED doubles as a fully functional training unit, which eliminates the need for expensive trainers that cannot be used in an emergency. Training Mode allows officers to build confidence using the same device they carry in their vehicles and would use in a real emergency by simply swapping in an Avive AED Training Cartridge

Avive’s REALConnect™ Platform streamlines maintenance for law enforcement agencies through remote monitoring that eliminates the need for manual AED checks. Cellular, Wi-Fi, and GPS technology enables each device to report its health, status, and location back to a centralized dashboard every day during its nightly self test, allowing for total program oversight. If a device requires maintenance - such as a battery charge or pad cartridge replacement - administrators receive text or email notifications to help let them know which devices need attention.
