What you need to know as a business owner with an AED

Businesses that own an AED may have other requirements to help make sure that they meet their state’s laws and are entitled to receive statutory immunity from civil lawsuits via Good Samaritan liability protection.

Every state’s laws are different, but the AED requirements can typically be summarized into the following categories:

1
CPR/AED Training Requirements
CPR & AED training equips employees with life-saving skills they can use both at work and home. Beyond meeting Good Samaritan laws, this training helps people recognize SCA and respond confidently during emergencies.
2
AED Registration Requirements
Some state laws require that AEDs be officially registered with local EMS, 911 call centers, public safety answering points, or state centers. Check with Avive’s team for more details, as registration is a service that we provide to our customers.
3
AED Medical Direction Requirements
At times, AED registration and medical direction, also known as “oversight” go hand-in-hand. Avive offers medical direction to our customers. Contact our team to learn more.
4
Post-Use Requirements
If your AED is used, some states require paperwork to be completed about the incident. This process is called “post-use reporting” and it is a service that Avive offers our customers.

Frequently asked questions.

Most large corporations have safety policies that require AEDs to protect employees, staff, and patrons in the event of a cardiac arrest emergency. However, the specific legal requirements depend on your location and the size or type of business. Explore your state’s AED laws

Even if not legally required, many companies choose to have AEDs on site as part of their commitment to employee safety. It’s important to check your state’s regulations to determine if your business falls under any AED requirements.

AEDs only get used when people know where to find them, so it’s important to place AEDs in highly trafficked, unlocked, and accessible locations throughout your building, such as a front lobby, near an elevator, or in a communal gathering space like a cafeteria. It is a good idea to have a wall sign that draws attention to your AED and makes sure people know where to find it in an emergency. Safety guidelines and best practices suggest that an AED should be retrievable within a two minute brisk walk from anywhere in the building.

Having an AED on site shows your employees and patrons that you care about their safety and wellbeing. The Avive Connect AED enhances workplace safety with advanced features designed for reliability and ease of use. Its cellular, Wi-Fi, and GPS connectivity allow for remote monitoring which streamlines AED management and maintenance and eliminates the need for time-consuming manual inspections. It automatically notifies emergency services during an emergency via Avive’s QuickRescue™ feature, ensuring swift professional response when every second matters.

Avive’s REALConnect™ streamlines maintenance for large, multi-door corporations through remote monitoring that eliminates the need for manual AED checks. Cellular, Wi-Fi, and GPS technology enables each device to report its health, status, and location back to a centralized dashboard every day during its nightly self test, allowing for total program oversight. If a device requires maintenance - such as a battery charge or pad cartridge replacement - program managers receive text or email notifications to help let them know which devices need attention and resolve issues quickly.

Yes, the Avive Connect AED doubles as a fully functional training unit, which eliminates the need for expensive AED trainers that cannot be used in an emergency. Training Mode allows staff to build confidence using the same device they would during a real emergency. Simply swap in an Avive AED Training Cartridge and run realistic scenarios to equip your employees with the confidence to respond to cardiac arrest.

While the Avive Connect AED has advanced capabilities and first-of-its-kind features, it is designed to be competitively priced when compared to other AEDs on the market. The device is $1699 and includes the first year of REALConnect services for free. After the first year of ownership, REALConnect services - which enable device connectivity - are $199/year for each year thereafter. Unlike other AEDs, the device’s rechargeable battery is designed to save money throughout ownership by eliminating the need to buy battery replacements every few years.
