Requirements
New Jersey State AED Law
Nursing homes, health clubs, and schools in New Jersey are required to have AEDs on site.
Below is a full list of AED requirements and who is protected when they are used.
Summary of Requirements
Physician | A licensed physician must be involved to ensure compliance. |
CPR/AED Training | Anyone that acquires an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) must successfully complete and hold a current certification from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or an equivalent training program recognized by the Department of Health and Senior Services in the use of a defibrillator and in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. |
EMS Notification | When a person obtains an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) they must notify first aid, ambulance, rescue squad, or other emergency medical services provider of the location and type of the AED. |
Maintenance Program | When a person acquires an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), they must ensure that it is properly maintained and tested according ot the manufacturer’s operational instructions. |
Notification of Use | As soon as a person uses an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), it is required that they request emergency assistance from the appropriate first aid, ambulance, or rescue squad as soon as possible. |
