“The features of the Avive Connect AED are phenomenal. There are so many different things that swayed us to purchasing them. I think one of the biggest things for us was the fact that they weighed just over 2 pounds and they’re tiny. We were incorporating oxygen into our trauma backpacks, and we were having a really hard time finding a backpack that would fit our AED and the portable oxygen. EMS doesn't carry those things together. We were looking for that unicorn, now the Avive Connect AED fits so perfectly in that bag.”

“When they say ‘Connect’ AED it is so true, there are so many different ways it's connected. Whether it’s the REALConnect feature, pulling the dashboard up on my computer and being able to see all of my eight units right there.”

Head Athletic Trainer at Bishop Lynch High School

As the head athletic trainer at Bishop Lynch High School, the largest coed Catholic high school in Texas, Mike Hopper places great importance on ensuring that AEDs are not only spread across campus but are also easy to use and portable. Serving a student body of 1,000, with 700 student-athletes, Mike is the first line of defense when it comes to keeping athletes safe. He is especially passionate about protecting students in the event of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) emergency, which is the leading cause of death among young athletes.

While Texas law requires schools to have at least one AED on campus, Mike believes that simply meeting the minimum standard isn’t enough. AEDs need to be strategically placed in easily accessible locations because, in an emergency, every second counts.

Since students spend more than half of their day on campus, they are vulnerable to unexpected emergencies at any time. That’s why it’s crucial to have life-saving tools like AEDs readily available, properly maintained, and easy for everyone to use.

In this conversation, Mike outlines his strategy for AED placement across campus and discusses how Avive Connect AED®’s features support his mission to protect athletes in multiple sports, at various locations, and even while traveling. He also shares his plans to expand the school’s Avive AED fleet to further safeguard his students.
