Customer Story | Vaughan Family

“Just Talk About It:” The Vaughan Family’s Approach to AED Friendliness and SCA Preparedness.

Andrew Vaughan and his 6-year-old son, Ryder, both have a genetic heart condition that makes them vulnerable to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Andrew had experienced cardiac arrest as a teenager, but was saved thanks to his teacher and classmates. They used an AED to restart his heart, giving him a second chance at life. Now a father, Andrew and his wife, Taylor, have understandable concerns that Ryder might face the same life-threatening risk.

“It lets us live our lives like a normal family, like there’s nothing wrong. That’s why it's so easy to talk about—it doesn’t feel like there’s anything different about us or what we do, and the Avive AED has been part of that.”

In June 2024, three local banks, Fairfield Federal Savings & Loan, Friendly Bremen Banking Center, and Park National Bank, partnered to purchase 10 Avive Connect AED®s through Community Heart Watch. These devices were intended for donation to nonprofits in need, particularly those lacking an AED or possessing outdated models that required replacement. The banks decided to donate one of the Avive Connect AED® to the Vaughan family, offering them an added layer of safety and security.

Andrew and Taylor Vaughan, along with their son Ryder, share their heartfelt journey of preparing their family for the unexpected. Together, they’ve made it a priority to equip themselves with the knowledge and tools needed to respond in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest emergency. With an open and honest approach, they’ve destigmatized this important topic with Ryder, helping him understand what to do if the worst happens. The Avive Connect AED® is their trusted companion, offering peace of mind as it travels with them through their busy lives and outdoor adventures.

Knowing that Ryder is safe with the AED at school and on field trips—alongside teachers who are trained in using it—brings them a deep sense of security. The Avive Connect AED® helps this family feel confident in their normal routine because, at the heart of it, they *are* living life to the fullest. With its lightweight design, ease of use, and portability, it’s a vital tool that can be there when you need it most. Whether at home or on the go, the Avive Connect AED® offers families an added layer of protection with its child-mode feature, universal electrode pads, and splashproof design.

The Vaughan family’s message is simple: start the conversation, remove the fear and uncertainty, and have a plan in place. With the right tools, you can live your life with confidence, knowing that you're ready for whatever comes your way.
