As we focus on commercializing our next-generation Avive Connect AED™ over this next year, Topher will undoubtedly play a vital role in our financial forecasting and the security of our business. See why he’s passionate about joining the team at Avive and motivated to work toward a world where no witnessed Sudden Cardiac Arrest goes untreated.
How long have you been with Avive and what does your role entail?
I started with Avive in January 2023. As VP Finance, I am responsible for using our financial results and forecasting to share the financial story of Avive with our investors, employees and other stakeholders.
What were you doing before you came to Avive?
I took a four year sabbatical with my wife Kimberly and my son Tanner. We spent six months going around the world, visiting amazing places like Fiji, Botswana, Petra and Croatia. We then sailed our catamaran Dorothy Rose through the Caribbean for three and a half years.
What is something about Sudden Cardiac Arrest that you wish more people knew?
I think there is a misconception that Sudden Cardiac Arrest is something that happens just to older people, similar to heart attack risk. I wish more people were aware of how Sudden Cardiac Arrest also impacts teens and young adults. When a parent shares their story with us about losing a child, it breaks our hearts. We work every day in the hope that fewer parents will ever know such sadness.
Which of Avive’s company values resonates with you the most?
Compassion. We are a mission driven company, and our mission is to work to improve the survival rate from Sudden Cardiac Arrest because we care deeply for our patients and their families.
What made you choose to work at Avive?
I joined Avive because everyone I met in the interview process is committed to saving lives. Our team members don’t just have business experience, they have founded or worked with non-profit organizations to prevent Sudden Cardiac Arrest, they have been first responders who have seen the impacts on families and they have all shown tremendous dedication to working to improve the survivability rate from Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
How do you take your coffee?
I like it in a glass with Diet Pepsi and ice, hold the coffee.
What’s something not many people know about you?
I love puzzles. I live for Rubik’s Cube, jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, Sumaddle, Wordle and any of the solid geometric puzzles designed by Stewart Coffin.
Do you have a favorite quote or personal mantra?
“A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.”
John A. Shedd
