Maine State AED Law
Maine requires all schools to have AED present at sporting events and offer training in CPR and AED use to all students.
Below is a full list of Maine’s AED laws and those who are protected when using an AED in good faith.
Summary of Requirements
Physician | A licensed physician must consult on technical assistance when it comes to choosing an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and best storage location, training of potential operators, and protocols for use. |
CPR/AED Training | Only a person who has successfully completed a course on the use and operation of an AED from the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or the department may use an AED on another person. |
EMS Notification | Anyone that owns or leases an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) must notify the Maine Emergency Medical Services on the location and type of AED that is owned/leased. |
Maintenance Program | An AED owned/leased by a person must be maintained and tested in accordance with the standard of the original manufacturer and any other requirements made by the department. |
Notification of Use | Anyone that owns or leases an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) must notify the Maine Emergency Medical Services of the clinical use made of the AED. |
