Wisconsin State AED Law

Wisconsin promotes the integration of community organizations and local EMS by requiring individuals to notify EMS upon purchasing an AED. The legislation helps to foster greater community preparedness and response efforts.

Summary of Requirements

Physician

A licensed physician must approve the ownership of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

CPR/AED Training

No legislation is currently in place for Wisconson

EMS Notification

A person who owns an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) must provide written notification to the nearest EMS program.

Maintenance Program

The owner of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) must maintain and test the AED on a regular basis in accordance with the manufacturer guidelines.

AB 725

Beginning in the 2010−11 school year, each school board operating high school grades, the operator of each charter school established under s.
118.40 (2r) that operates high school grades, and the governing body of
each private school that operates high school grades shall offer instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, cardio-cerebral resuscitation, and the use of an automated external defibrillator to pupils enrolled in the high school grades in the school district, charter school, or private school.
