North Carolina State AED Law

North Carolina encourages bystander action in the event of Sudden Cardiac Arrest by protecting the rescuer, property owner, physician, and trainer who may deploy an AED.

Summary of Requirements

Physician

A licensed physician in the state of North Carolina must provide a prescription for the ownership of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

CPR/AED Training

The owner of the facility where an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is located must provide training for immunity.

EMS Notification

The seller of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) must notify the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, EMS office, and the Division of Facilities Services of the location and type of AED.
